You’ve probably all seen *that* christmas advert by now, which means it’s officially the season to be jolly, and get your party outfit on of course! I love this time of year, when you can get all the sequins and sparkles out. I am all about the dark berry tones, dark greys and black and plenty of metallics, and ALL the textures, this time of year. If you can’t put on all the glitz and glam around christmas time, when can you!?
I am off to New York soon and I have been looking for the perfect outfits to take with me. I can’t wait, I want to shoot so many outfit posts while i’m there (much to Brad’s dismay, but I mean what does he really expect!!) and I want to look my best while I’m having the time of my life in the city of dreams.
I took a bit of time out to do some shopping the other week at Cabot Circus in Bristol to check out all the seasonal party wear, and my gosh, the high street shops are full of sparkles! I was in my element, literally everything was made for me. It’s actually sods law after we spent months looking for sequin bridesmaid tops for my best friends wedding and now I’ve spotted loads that would have been perfect, but any excuse to buy more sparkly tops!!
As you know, I’m not much a fan of the classic look, whilst I’m envious of those that can pull it off, it’s just not me, so unfortunately I have to avoid those sophisticated little black dresses. I would rather be rocking out in a poofy sequin skater dress and some chunky boots adorned with all the bold metal jewellery, and probably my fur lined leather jacket! My style icon right now is totally Aria from Pretty Little Liars (#sorrynotsorry) at all their end of year parties, she’s a little rock n roll queen!
I did quite a bit of shopping and checked out nearly all the shops in town, I accidentally nearly spent all day there. As always, my fav has to be River Island but House of Fraser also had an amazing selection of party wear too. My suitcase is going to be full to the brim with sequin tops, metallic hidden heel high tops, tulle puffy skirts, furs, feathers and LOTS of glitter!!
If you’re planning to hit the shops in town this christmas, why not treat yourself to that perfect party outfit! Don’t forget, you can download the Cabot Circus PLUS app, available on iTunes or Google Play, which has loads of great offers from your fav stores, and also an interactive map so you can find the quickest way to grab a bargain!
Have you got a party to go to this festive season? What will you be wearing?!
TOP 5 TRENDS FOR THIS SEASON…
and how I would add a bit of my own personal style to each trend!
Classic is certainly one trend that I would not usually consider, but everyone needs their own version of their little black dress right? Something perfect for any occasion when you want to dress to impress. Something classy, smart and sophisticated. Why not try make a tailored spin on the LBD and opt for a LBJ (little black jumpsuit) instead. I admit, a jumpsuit can be daunting if your fuller figured around the bum area, like me, but I love this wide leg one piece from Warehouse, team it with a bold metal clutch bag (River Island have some awesome ones!) and some jewellery for a bit of added glitz.
If you’re not one to brave all the seasonal sparkles, why not go for some thing more minimal, less is more they say! (Not that I believe any of that jazz, more is more I say!) This gorgeous shift dress keeps things simple but gives a nod to the luxurious velvet that’s everywhere atm. You could team it with a pair of black velvet boots and a bold gold bangle and add a little fun with this pom pom ring to finish the look!
I love all the lush velvet and dark lace dresses, a distinct hint of Victoriana. It’s totally bringing out my inner goth, there’s so many high necks, long sleeves, ribbons and tassels sweeping the high street at every turn. It’s clear to see lace is going to be big, Warehouse had this fab high neck lace dress which caught my eye, and what about this beautiful velvet number from Topshop!!?
ROCK N ROLL
Rock n Roll has got to be the perfect trend for me this season. I’m never far from a few sequins this time of year, and I spotted some amazing sequinned dresses in the shops. I love to clash metallic fabrics for a bold look why not team this pleated metallic skirt with a sequinned top and some chunky boots, sheer tights, lots of eyeliner, and a leather jacket to perfect your rock n roll look.
Nothing says party like disco says party! You will not be able to escape the glitter, platform shoes, big earrings, opaque tights and colourful faux furs for cover ups this season. The 70s trend just got hit with a few bags of unicorn dust! The best thing about this trend is having fun with your fashion. Wear that bright green metallic bold and brash dress, team it with the biggest platforms you can find and don’t be scared to work it. Go disco or go home!
