#SkinCareAware Week With Destination Skin

I have to be totally honest with you, I have never been one for much of a skin care routine and I have never been very #skincareaware. It has only been in the last year or so that I have started to dabble in a routine and try out new products. I have definitely realised that since I am now pushing 30 I need to start looking after my skin, particularly more so now that the summer is creeping up on us.

When Destination Skin got in touch to inform me that next week is #SkinCareAware week, and to see if I would like to pop along to one of their branches to see what would be the best skin care routine for me, I thought I could do with some professional advice and booked my appointment. Although, I must have been lucky, as my skin isn’t that bad, but I do suffer with a redness to my cheeks and have some pigmentation from sun damage. I also have some crows feet creeping in and not to mention the bags under my eyes.

I’m not the best person for relaying scientific information but in simple terms, your skin has three layers and over time the top layer can break down and be damaged by our daily activities and become thin. I’m sure we all are aware of this. What I didn’t know, is that the bottom layer of skin is there to hold it in place (so were not all walking around like some kind of year 8 science class skeleton model!) and as we age, if we don’t take care of our skin, that layer actually comes away from our structure and that’s what gives us wrinkles and saggy skin. You read up on the science bit on Destination Skin’s blog which has lots of helpful information if you are also looking to start a skincare regime.

I have been prescribed a concoction of products to aid my new skin care routine. I have been using them for about two weeks now and I my skin is already looking healthier. Today I went in to the Destination Skin branch in Bristol again, to try out the light therapy treatment which helps boost collagen in the skin and target the pigmentation. Although it takes 1-3 months to really see a proper difference, I could see my skin was definitely less red when I came out.

It has been really great to be educated on my skin, I used to think it was all a load of jargon, but it’s great to hear the science behind it all and actually understand why I should be looking after my skin.

WHAT DOES #SKINCAREAWARE MEAN?

The #skincareaware campaign is brought to you by DestinationSkin to help protect, prevent and correct past and future skin damage. To prove their commitment to improving skin health, DestinationSkin are offering free skin scanning throughout the campaign. A skin scan is a quick and easy way to take a deeper look at the health of your skin under a UV lamp to identify areas of sun damage (pigmentation), dehydration and oiliness.

You can also enter their competition to be in with a chance to win £1000 worth of skincare products

Last week, I, along with Lily, Megan, Steph and other bloggers of whom I had never met before, were invited to Bath Lush. We were invited for an evening of demonstrations, a store tour and a chance to make our own Lush products. In the grand scheme of things, I am a nbewie to Lush, I only used my first Lush product just before Christmas. I have always loved the smell when you walk past a store, and I have been in a handful of times without buying anything. I think, truth be told, I was just bowled over by all the choice and I didn’t ever know which products to go for so I just didn’t try anything.

Compared to your bog standard bath and shower products, Lush does tend to be more pricey. Not to say it isn’t justified, I just want to make sure I am buying the right products when spending my hard earned money on their cruelty free products. In addition to that, for the past two years, we haven’t actually had a bath in our home and a lot of the more colourful and desirable products (i.e. the bath bombs) are dedicated to people who have a bath.

Whilst I was there I was talking to the staff about what products are great for showers, and there is loads that I didn’t know about. I tried the Yummy Mummy shower gel which smells amazing and took home a sample too. Although I am not a mummy, who cares what it’s called when it smells that good! I also got some Fun for Christmas, and I love having fun in the shower (oi oi!!) it’s a really great product and you can even play with it like play dough and wash your clothes with it. Now that I have a better knowledge of the products I definitely feel brave enough to take the plunge and try some new products. If your like me, next time you pass a Lush, just go and and ask the staff about your requirements. They are very informative and you can also try some samples of any product so you can try for yourself!

I made a video too, check it out below!

LVL Lash Lift Review

Last week I went to see Kaycie at her salon to try out a new treatment that she has just added to the list of great beauty treatments she offers, which is an improved version of an lash perm, called LVL lash lift. Last year over the christmas period, I tried eyelash extensions, and although they look good when they are fresh I just didn’t get on with them for a number of reasons (namely I picked at them when they started to grow out and nearly went bald on one eye!) so I have been looking at alternative methods to achieve naturally long and curly looking lashes.

Kaycie suggested I tried LVL lash lift and I was intrigued by the new process, having never had my eyelashes permed I thought it was worth a go, and I felt like I could do with a bit of a pampering.

I’m no beauty therapist and I don’t know the exact process, but you can see some of the steps throughout the photos, which I was taking blind whilst lying on the bed with my eyes closed. It isn’t a painful process but it was a little uncomfortable, but it lasted about 45 mins, and in between whilst we were waiting for development times, Kaycie gave me a hand and head massage and we chatted through the waiting time. She also gave me an eyebrow wax and tint whilst I was in.

I was very impressed at the result. My eyelashes actually aren’t that long but after the lash lift, it was very similar affect to having extensions on, although just not quite as long. Such a small change makes such a huge difference to my eyes, it really opened them up. Having teamed the lash lift with an eyebrow wax and tint, my face was looking all around tidier and fresher without the need for make up.

I will be going back every 6 weeks to refresh the lift, I am tempted to have some lash extensions again but they are just such an up keep, so i’m sitting on the fence for the moment!
