I’ve been wanting to share my summer home decor living room ideas for so long, but I’m a perfectionist and wanted to finish a few things before I did. Namely, filling the white blank space on the wall behind our new sofa, after we bought the sofa and had a rearrange since my last living room tour.
When I redecorated to the current colour scheme (I can’t believe that was over a year ago!) the living room became my fav room in the house. Unfortunately, I did it on a budget and the only sofa’s I could afford at the time were (second hand) Ikea sofa’s, that although look good and suited my mid century styling, weren’t particularly comfortable. Especially for Brad who was longer than the sofa and could never lie out on them very well, and we could never curl up together either. So a new sofa has been on our list to buy for ages and after a random evening to Ikea, we decided to bite the bullet and go for a similar style Ikea sofa, but a much larger L shape sofa bed.
After rearranging, we now had a rather blank white space above the sofa which I felt needed filling, and I am so pleased with the result. With just bits and peices I had lying around the house, I created my new fav part of the living room. Here’s a few summer home decor ideas for you!
We have quite a handy picture rail which we kept as part of the original features. I hunted down a bit of copper pipe from Brad’s stash in the garage and cut it to size and collected up a random assortment of trinkets and hanging objects to populate the rail. I had a frame in my cupboard which I printed off this Wake Up, Girlboss, Repeat print. I already had a pink wire hanging light in my bedroom which I brought down as I felt like the corner needed lighting up in the evening. We had the turquoise Ikea shelf from the old spare room (now dressing room) which we never put back up and I thought that made a nice contrast to just having hanging items. I even drilled the holes in the wall to fit it properly!
My flamingo marquee light was from my last Primark haul, the arrow one from Home Bargains. My group of miniture mermaids are actually (ironically) a family heirloom! I don’t have any plant pots for my cactus’ yet so I just spray the plastic pots they came in white for now.
