At Home with a Blogger

I thought I would get a bit creative with my outfit post today, when I woke up this morning it was chucking it down with rain, I am full of cold (I have lost track of how many times I have sneezed today already!) and I don’t have any plans to leave the house today. I have so much design work and website stuff to be getting on with, quite frankly I didn’t feel like getting dressed just for the sake of an outfit post. So instead I thought I would just be totally honest about how I plan on spending the day, right here on the sofa with my puppies, next to the fire in my PJs! Here, come and join me….

Do you work from home? Do you find yourself mostly living in lounge wear or PJs?! It has become occupational hazard for me, on the days I don’t need to go out, I just don’t see the point in getting dressed. Or I get dressed in to something that is just as comfy as PJs but it is deemed acceptable to leave the house in, such as leggings and a large baggy jumper! But I have to say, it does make when I do get dressed up (or just dressed) more exciting. So rock n roll.

This definitely feels like the perfect time of year to update the comfy wardrobe. I have been checking out all the christmas pjs and christmas jumpers in all the shops. I thought I would hunt for my fav cosy homely stuff to share with you. Featured in the photos are my David and Goliath “You’re so Pugly” jumper, Barmy PJ bottoms from Peacocks, (you can see my haul video here) My pink elf slippers (which I have had to remove the bells from!), and my new gorgeous smelling glade candles.

Tuesday Treasures // Modern Rockabilly

Last night, I headed to The Kingsley Academy who was very kindly hosting the South West Bloggers frock swap. I wanted to wait to put together this week’s Tuesday Treasures #ootd, rather than planning it in advance, because I wanted to wait to see what treasures I would find last night. And treasures I did find indeed, I came home with more than I took with me! I will be filming a Frock Swap Haul video this afty so watch this space, but for now I have put together this modern rockabilly inspired outfit with a couple of items I picked up last night.

This two piece vintage set belonged to the gorgeous Sophie from Saints on a Plane, I don’t usually do green but I loved the floral print on it and the cute little top. I teamed it with this Bonjour Paris metallic slogan t-shirt that I picked up in my last Primark haul (you can watch the video here) which I am yet to wear until now. With a floral twin set like this, the look could have easily been a really pretty pretty and classy look, but that’s not me! So instead, I rocked it with a leather jacket (also from Primark) and my Aimilita Dr Martens from their new AW14 Rugged collection. Also featured here is some bespoke earrings from Gauge Queen, my rockabilly skull necklace from Punky Pins and a couple of rings (right hand only) from Cheap Frills.

Shop Local #2 // Dr Martens, Bristol

I was super lucky to be invited to the Dr Martens, Bristol to sneak a peak at the new AW14 collection, and to be offer the chance to chose my fav pair to take home. Having never stepped foot in a pair of Dr Martens before, (but been on my wish list for some time) I can’t tell you how exciting this was for me.

The Bristol store is small but perfectly packaged, with retro vibes streaming out the front door. It’s a place I instantly felt at home in and was cooing over several pairs of their awesome range. Of course naturally there’s the classic 1460 in patent pink that I have lusted over for a long time that I was drawn to instantly (who doesn’t love a bit of patent pink?). Then there was the iridescent snake skin style which I also couldn’t help cop a feel of.

Mini records (which, sorry, I’m not old enough to know the correct terminology for) were playing on the branded duke box, as I was greeted by the lovely manager, Kat, who naturally rocked her own pair of DMs along with several tattoos and an oober cool personal style. She was really helpful in telling me about the new range and showing me around the store, she even helped me take some photos (and I’m not the easiest person to take photos for!).

I was torn between the tattooed Mary Jane, but in the end I went for the Amilitas with floral ribbon laces and a dark floral inside. The moment I put my foot in these boots, it was like I was walking on cloud 9. They are with out a doubt the most comfortable thing I have ever put my foot in (and in have put my foot in it a lot!) I wanted to wear them to bed last night. They will not be leaving my foot for a very long time. I can’t wait to do a proper outfit post with them, I’m sure you’ll be seeing a lot of my little amilitas in the near future!

Tuesday Treasures // Witch in the Woods

I have had so much fun playing dress up.. Where my witches at!!? I cannot wait for Halloween, so I got started a little early and did a practise run through. (And it’s a good job because the first attempt looked more like the tin man on crack rather than the sultry witch that I was going for!!)

I have always been a bit in to witches, secretly. I love the dark side and I very much grew up in the shadows. There’s was always something about witches, their magic spells and potions that have intrigued me. My top witches have to be The Charmed Ones of course, specifically Phoebe and then Page when she came along (I never liked pru!), Sabrina the Teenage Witch and SJP in Hocus Pocus!

We’re having a Halloween party for the first time ever, I have never dressed up for Halloween as an adult, so it’s all very exciting and it felt like a pretty natural decision to chose a witch as my Halloween costume! My Glaswegian babe, Miss Westend Girl and her scottish blogger crew teamed up to put together The Halloween Girl Gang project, and I have been loving all their outfit posts. I wanted in on the fun so I have created my own halloween witches outfit post for you!

Bristol Fashion Blog Mermaid Gossip Halloween Witches Outfit Post

This outfit was put together on a budget (and in a bit of a rush after my failure to produce my scheduled post last week!) My gloves and necklace were from Claire’s, I picked up my witches hat and faux candle holder, in Home bargains, whilst I was shopping for decorations for the party. I based the whole outfit around my pleather midi skirt which I already had in my wardrobe from Sainsbury’s and featured a few weeks ago.

I had been on the hunt for a top that made this outfit more witchy than just a normal outfit (aside from the obvious hat) and I couldn’t find a nice lace top anywhere (admittedly I didn’t look that hard!) and I stumbled upon this one in the lingerie section at Tesco (go tesco!) I think it will probably go in the “underwear that doesn’t come out very often” drawer after the party on friday night! The boots are from Duo and I think I will be living in these from now on!

I filmed a video whilst I was getting my make up on, it’s no tutorial but it might give you some insight as to how I achieved this more subtle witchy face, you can see that on the blog tomorrow.

Tuesday Treasures // Floral Vixen

Hey babe, I have a confession to make! I had every intention of today’s Tuesday Treasures to be a stylish take on a Halloween inspired outfit, specifically witchy. I was going to go to the cemetery a take some awesome photos of myself flying around on my broomstick, pretending it was witching hour… But then I had a crisis! I couldn’t find any thing to wear that was suitably witchy enough.

So I decided to ‘pop’ to Primark and grab something to complete my outfit. Then I had another crisis. There was too many nice things in Primark! So two hours later, a bag full of stuff and still with nothing that completed my witch outfit, I was home having yet another crisis. My hair was just the wrong side of the purple spectrum and the blue tones just weren’t sitting right for me, there was no pink left.

So I got out my hair dye and stuck a fresh load of dark tulip directions through the ends (a rich red/pink to conteract so much blue/purple) and a diluted wash of it through the roots to achieve the deep pinky purple I had originally wanted (and some seriously pink hands!)

Then my outfit was ready. Nothing like the one I had originally planned for you at the beginning of the day, but one I am so in love with at the end of it.

I spyed this skirt when Sophie dragged me in it town a couple of weeks ago when my hangover was raging and I didn’t have my shopping head on. It has been playing on my mind ever since, so I knew I had to get it. The flowers are just the perfect shades of deep pink and purple, perfectly matching my, now perfected hair.

“I feel like a floral vixen”

Every time I get dressed (I would like to say in the morning, but it could be any time of day!) I struggle with what I am going to wear on top. All my tops are still extremely summery, I literally could not find any thing in my wardrobe to fit my mood for this season. So I went totally mad on buying some new tops in Primark. Don’t worry I will be doing a huge Primark haul video very soon (as soon as the builders digging up our road have stopped causing chaos outside my bedroom window!!)

Wine has got to be one of my fav colours to wear I the autumn (as well as my fav thing to drink too!!) when I saw this sequin “Hey!” tee in Primark, at only £6 it was in my basket before you could say Hey! My wine colour leggings are a staple part of my wardrobe for the winter, and are being dusted off after their down time this summer. I had wanted to team today’s #OOTD with my new boots, coming soon, but they haven’t arrive in time so I will have to share them with you next week. The ones featured here are a pair I had totally forgotten about from BooHoo.com earlier this year. AND of course, this outfit would not have been complete with out the biggest over sized flower crown I own, the Rococo crown, perfect for autumn!
