Mermaid Tales // It’s Christmas Time

Good Morning lovely! Yay, it’s christmas week, I am so excited to get down to Bournemouth now. This weekend we have really just been getting the house tidy for when we go away (and tidy for when we come back!) and Brad has been doing his last minute present buying. I did plan a nice little last-Saturday-before-Christmas date night, and had planned to go get donuts from the new Krispy Kreme at the Mall (I made a video too!) and then enjoy an ice skating session. Turns out we were too late for the last ice skating session, so instead we spent the evening late night shopping at Cribbs Causeway and Brad managed to pick up some last minute gifts.

I have definitely spent some time chilling out and putting my work down this weekend. It’s hard for me to put my work down, I even work subconsciously when I’m “not” working. None of it ever feels like work until there are deadlines and a never ending to do list, but when you take all the pressure off, work becomes even less work even though it is still work. None the less, it feels like I have been able to step away from my laptop for most of the week and it has been lovely. Funnily enough by taking a step away, I have already conjured up some new ideas that I am planning on working on in the new year.

I have a few things that I still want to tick off the to-do list before Thursday, my last outfit post of the year for tomorrow should be happening tomorrow afternoon. It will be late because there’s a skirt I want need in my life before I can do it. This skirt, I have featured quite a few times over the last few weeks and now it is in the sale at £17 from £55 and finally I can justify buying it for my Christmas Day outfit which I want to share with you tomorrow (did you see my full inspo post on Saturday if you are still looking for an outfit, Miss Selfridge has some great offers on these skirts!). They only have said skirt in my size in the Bournemouth brnach so I need to pop in on our way down there tomorrow to get it before I can take any photos. Talk about lastminute.com!

Today will be spent getting the house spotless, packing all my potential outfits for Christmas Eve, Day and Boxing Day. I need to send off a few last minute gifts and cards for friends. I may find time to film a Youtube video to edit whilst we are away. I can’t wait to start our get away and see all my family! Yay!

Christmas Day Outfit Inspiration

It’s the last Saturday before CHRISTMAS! Excited much!? I know for some of you this may be the last day to get your Christmas shopping on, whether that means last minute Christmas presents, or getting your outfit sorted for Christmas Day. As a family, we all like to get dressed up for the day. I have heard some people use it as an excuse to get in their onesies and be comfy all day, but (on account of the fact I do that every other day!) I think it’s nice to make a special sparkly effort to put on your best glad rags.

I am still yet to sort out my Christmas Day outfit, so I have been browsing the high street stores online to try and find something. Chances are I will probably have spent all my money on presents and will just have to find something in my wardrobe to wear, but a girl can dream! Criteria for my personal christmas day outfit is smart, sparkly, loose, elasticated and comfy – we all gotta eat till we sleep, right!? I will try and look for a nice new skirt that I can team with one of my metallic tops to upgrade an old outfit. I find just buying a new skirt can create a completely new look, and I love a good midi full circle skirt, they hide a multitude of sins.

I thought I would share my perfect Christmas Day outfit for some outfit inspiration if you are still looking!? I think the only thing that would make this festive outfit more special would be for it to actually snow!!

Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

Since it’s that time of year that I am winding my brain down for Christmas, there is just no point starting new projects at this time of year. However, I am working on a fun little project for my own reflection, and I wanted to share. I think the lead up to the new year is a great time for reflection, to look back and appreciate how far life has come on and how much I have grown in a year. I stumbled across this old post and I obviously wrote this while I was feeling judged or inadequate, but the wisest of words come from the darkest of places. Although I can now read this and see only a small glimmer of these feelings, it is still a very valid point that will never get old.

I have been through several stages in my life of flipping between, caring immensely what people thought of me to not giving a damn. To now, where I don’t want to care, and mostly I don’t, but sometimes I just can’t help it the feels creeping in, and I have to have a mental word with myself.

“Truth is, what other people think of you is NONE of your business.”

Looking back to my childhood, I have always had issues with acceptance and rejection. My dad left us (Me my mum and my two brothers) when I was 6 (my brothers 2 & 1) and after very little contact and ten years later, at the age of 16 he wrote me a letter and told me he wanted nothing more to do with me, and that he wanted to get on with his new life with his new wife, and he didn’t want his old life to get in the way. Naturally this has had a deep seated effect on the way I have lived my life and the way I am today. I am a people pleaser. I want people to like me and I worry a lot about facing that rejection again. Still, my default emotion to getting to know new people, is to think they don’t like me.

I think it is important to be aware of what other people may think of your actions, other wise the world would be full of ‘I-dont-give-a-fuck’ arseholes, and there’s enough of them out there. However, if you are anything like me, you need to have a word with yourself about how you let other peoples opinions (or what you think their opinions are) affect you. Seeking approval from everyone is a waste of time and energy and it’s only you that suffers by dwelling on it. The fact of the matter is, there will always be people out there that like you, and there will be people that don’t, unfortunately it is the way of the world. The perception people have of you, says more about them than it does you.

Once you realise it doesn’t matter what people think of you, you can be free to be who you want to be. Life isn’t a practise run and you have to make the most of it #YOLO!! It isn’t about staying beige to please everyone, it is about finding the people that LOVE the pink (or turquoise, lilac or what ever other colour represents your freedom!)

In the famous word of Bob, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy!”

I don’t very often wear white, mostly because I am mucky pup and I do tend to spill often, but when I saw this waffle fabric dress in Primark, there was something I really liked about it. White is a good colour to wear in winter to embrace your frozen spirit. Of course, this wouldn’t be my outfit post with out adding a splash of colour! I threw on my pink trainers (which is the second pair I have owned and I wear them to death! You can get them here! You can get them here!) to pop over to the allotments for a walk around. I really like the splash of colour that meant I could team the look with this coat that I bought from a car boot in the summer (originally from Next), and my wooly hat that I also recently got from Primark too. To keep in with the pink and white theme, I wore my Punky Pins doe eyed deer necklace too.

Now that I am feeling all wintery fresh and festive, I am off out to get some of my Christmas Shopping done! Wish me Luck!

Mermaid Tales // Road Trip to London and Bournemouth

Woah, what a busy ‘weekend’ it has been! As I mention on Thursday, I left for London on Thursday afternoon and had a 12 hour round trip to London and then on to Bournemouth. It has been such an amazing whirlwind of photo boothing since Thursday with two Christmas parties and one wedding. I am so lucky to be able to travel the UK with my own business and be as in demand for a two hour photo booth in Bristol, as it was for a six hours in London. All three of my photo booth bookings this weekend have been adored and I have enjoyed such banter with all the guests, I came away each night with achy cheeks from all the laughter. You can check out all the photos here.

Of course, I vlogged as much as I could, so you can watch what I got up to here:

I spent the whole day yesterday on the sofa (apart from a dog walk) I chilled out watching and catching up with Made in Chelsea and Xfactor #spoileralert – I can’t believe Fleur didn’t win! She had my (free on the App) vote! I have lots of vlogs and blogs to edit this week, and then one more photo booth in Bristol on Thursday night but I can definitely feel myself starting to wind down for Christmas now. I still have lots of presents to buy so I need to work on that this week too! Wish me luck!
