Spa Day at Mercure Hotel, Bristol

I was lucky enough to be invited to go and review the spa at the Mercure Hotel in Redcliffe, Bristol. I took along blogging buddy, Megan, so that we could both enjoy a day of relaxation and rejuvenation. We arrived bright and early, even though our treatments weren’t booked in until midday, we were able to take advantage of all the facilities including the pool and gym.

When we arrived we were greeted by spa manager Rhea, who was incredibly attentive and showed us straight to the changing rooms to find our robes and slippers. Once changed Rhea showed us to the relaxation room and offered us a large selection of tea or coffee. I’m a bit of a coffee snob so I was impressed by the quality of coffee on offer and told we could help ourselves to as much as we liked throughout the day.

Unfortunately, to use the swimming pool, we had a mad dash across the car park in our robes and slippers back over to the main part of the hotel. The spa is currently situated in a separate building to the hotel and we weren’t made aware of this until we had already changed. Although, there are changing rooms within the pool area, so if you are planning on making a day of it and don’t want to go out in the cold in your swimming costumes, be sure to plan this in!

Having said that, the pool area, although a little on the small side, was a lovely relaxing space. It was lovely and warm for the cold dash to soon be forgotten. Although not advertised, I would have expected a spa and pool to also boast a hot tub and steam room, but we were later told the hotel has big plans for 2015 to combine the spa and pool facilities making improvements and updating it a little. Hopefully we will be invited back to test out the new environment next year.

We enjoyed a lovely swim in the pool before heading back over to the spa building to be greeted by Laura who would look after us for the rest of the afternoon. Laura was lovely with a really friendly face and made us feel totally at home. She took us up to the second floor to show us to our treatment room (after offering us more coffee) and took some details from us before we started our treatments.

We each thoroughly enjoyed a cleansing and purifying back massage, a tranquility head massage and a discovery facial. Each treatment was so relaxing and the products smelt amazing. I have so many knots in my shoulders so Laura worked those a little harder. The facial was my favourite and I would definitely consider going back for one every other month. Laura used a product which removes all your dead skin without scrubbing it raw, and my skin was so unbelievably soft after. I wish I did a before and after photo, as you could definitely notice the difference.

Once our treatments were over we were guided back over to the main hotel to enjoy a spa lunch which included a glass of wine (or any drink but we opted for wine, obvs) and a sandwich or wrap. Both Megan and I went for the pulled pork wrap. It was so delicious, it came with a little portion of hand cooked crisps and a shot of hand made soup. The quality of the food matched the service we had experienced all day and was really a lovely way to end the day.

If your looking for some relaxation before you hit the Christmas sales, or perhaps your looking for a gift for your friends and family? I would definitely recommend booking in for a few treatments for a day of chilling out in some great company.

Festive Sparkles

If you read my post yesterday, you will know that I dressed up in festive sparkles, for our early thanks giving at Bespoke Bride HQ at the weekend. I don’t really need an excuse to get my sequin on, but as we were celebrating Christmas it seemed only right to put some sparkle in to my outfit for the evening. I bought my sequin skirt last christmas and for the life of me, I can’t remember where it was from but there are few similar options below. My gold metallic top was from River Island a few months back, and also doesn’t seem to be on their website any more, again I have listed a few similar options below. My gold bag was from Primark and my gold elbie crown from Crown and Glory. You can see how I got my nails like this, here. Watch out for loads more sequins flying around over these parts in the coming weeks!

Don’t forget to scroll to the bottom, I filmed a get ready with me video so you can see how I achieved this look in full!

Mermaid Tales // Thanks Giving at Bespoke Bride HQ

I am feeling so content right now. I celebrated an early Thanks Giving at Bespoke Bride HQ with Jess, Em, and Megan. I had SUCH a lovely evening. Megan and I headed over to the Forest of Dean on Saturday afternoon (enjoying a Disney and christmas sing along in the car) filled with excitement and suspense, not knowing what the girls had up their sleeve. The girls had hinted at a few little surprises, and told us to bring our cameras (goes with out saying really with a room full of bloggers!) but we had no idea what they were up to.

We arrived to be greeted by the smell of turkey cooking in the oven and a Thanks Giving table so amazingly decorated in pastel shades and Bespoke Bride colours. They had made garlands to replace the usual christmas party hat, pyramid favour boxes filled with little sweets, each personalised with a photo of each of us. They had created a geometric backdrop for the perfect photo opp, filled huge balloons with helium and customised them with “Give Thanks” lettering. It looked amazing, my excitement grew and at one point I just couldn’t contain it I was skipping around the house with a huge smile on my face.

We had all preplanned our secret santa gifts (not that it stayed secret for long) so whilst we waited for the turkey to cook through, we sat to open all our presents. We took it in turn to open our pressies, to be sure we all got to see what every one had be given. I love watching people open presents more than I do opening my own so I went last and it’s obvious we all know each other well with each present being so perfectly fitting for each of us. Jess Santa got me a little mermaid print in a personalised frame and I can’t wait for it to be the first piece of art on my office wall. I love it.

We all helped with prepping the veg and serving the dinner. In true blogger style, our dinner was almost cold by the time we ate it after, naturally, taking photos and videos of the food before it reached the table. It was all so delicious and yummy, and SO filling. After dinner we all got in our onesies, opened the tin of quality street, ate homemade apple pie and drank orange liquor hot chocolate, it was very indulgent. We talked the night away, about blogging, the future, our past, we put the world to rights and had a proper girly cosy evening. It is so nice to have found a group of like minded and genuine girls who I can enjoy evening like this with, I honestly can’t put in to words how happy and content I came away feeling.

8 tools to affordably and easily film You Tube videos // Blogboss

Number three in this five part series of #blogboss is 8 tools to help you affordably and easily, start to film YouTube videos for your youtube channel. I am relatively new at YouTube but I have had a years practise now and I feel like I have a developed few good practises which I want to share with you to help you on your way to getting all the gear and none of the fear!!

Become your own #blogboss

1. Nikon D3100 , this isn’t the best camera in the world and not one that most YouTubers use. But it is cheaper than that perfect model (cannon seem to be the brand of choice for the big names) and I picked mine up second hand for around £200. It’s and all in one DSLR with video capability. It’s a good entry level camera to start creating great videos.

2. Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Lens. Although the 18-55mm lens is a great starting point, using this fixed lens will allow for a better quality video (although no more filming in small spaces!)

3. Neewer 58mm 0.45x Wide Angle Lens for Canon Rebel/EOS. Buying a proper wide angle lens could set you back a bit, and whilst you’re not earning a five figure sum from YouTube, you kit should reflect that. (Unless you have money to burn, then ignore everything I am saying!). The wide angle adapter does what it says on the tin, it adapts you 50mm fixed lens to adapt to be a little wider angle. Meaning you can get a bit more of your surroundings in to shot.

4. Apple iPad Mini 16GB Wi-Fi (White), Controversially, I use my iPad to do all my video editing.

#blogboss BRISTOL LIFESTYLE BLOG MERMAID GOSSIP #BLOGBOSS 10 TOOLS A BLOGGER CANT LIVE WITHOUT7

5. Pinnacle studio. For basic editing this app is AMAZING!! I dabbled with iMovie for a while but it’s clunky and time consuming and I just find that Pinnacle studio is user friendly, pretty comprehensive. The only thing your aren’t able to do is colour correction, but it makes clipping videos together and editing speed and the music and overlaying images etc so easy!

6. 1250W 5500K Continuous Lighting Light Box Softboxes Kit  for when a window isn’t available, and to allow for more flexibility in location choices. These are a real basic kit but do the job fine.

7. Apple  LIGHTNING TO SD CARD CAMERA – READER, Making it so simple and easy to import you filmed videos from your camera to you iPad, and in to Pinnacle Studio.

8. SD card, obvs! Hopefully that goes with out saying!

I hope this helps in some way to getting the basic kit you need to start youtubing. Send me your video links so I can check them out!

Quiz Clothing Sequin Dress & Foil Nails Combo

When I was made aware of this competition, to match your nails to one of Quiz Clothing’s dress range, I knew it was the perfect nail inspiration. Not that I need any help on that front. As soon as I saw this dress, I knew it was the perfect dress and nail combo for the festive season. When I told Kaycie of the challenge, she got very excited and her instant response was that she has the perfect foil to get the same effect that the sequins on the dress provide. Between us we came up with such an awesome nail design. Dontcha think!? If you want to get involved, you can find the details here.

What you will need

CND Shellac Black Pool 7.3ml Gel Colour UV3 polish
♥ NailStar™ 36 Watt Professional UV Shellac Gel Nail Lamp Dryer + 4 x 9W Bulbs Included and 120 Second Timer
12 Rolls Mix colors Nail Art Transfer Foil Set Nail Tip Decoration New Fashion
CND Shellac Power Polish – UV TOP COAT – 7.3ml

Here’s how to create this look.

♥ We used CND shellac black polish for a base and cured each of the two layers but we didn’t put the top coat on to seal it yet.
♥ We cut up small inch size selections of the nail foil in a selection of colours, teal, gold, Blue and green.
♥ Because the shellac remains sticky until you apply the top coat, it provides the perfect base for applying the foil. We dabbed on the foil which clings to the sticky shellac base and we layered up the colours.
♥ Kaycie of course added some sparkle on one finger with a beautiful Indian inspired gemstone arrangement to add some bling to the overall look.
