LVL Lash Lift Review

Last week I went to see Kaycie at her salon to try out a new treatment that she has just added to the list of great beauty treatments she offers, which is an improved version of an lash perm, called LVL lash lift. Last year over the christmas period, I tried eyelash extensions, and although they look good when they are fresh I just didn’t get on with them for a number of reasons (namely I picked at them when they started to grow out and nearly went bald on one eye!) so I have been looking at alternative methods to achieve naturally long and curly looking lashes.

Kaycie suggested I tried LVL lash lift and I was intrigued by the new process, having never had my eyelashes permed I thought it was worth a go, and I felt like I could do with a bit of a pampering.

I’m no beauty therapist and I don’t know the exact process, but you can see some of the steps throughout the photos, which I was taking blind whilst lying on the bed with my eyes closed. It isn’t a painful process but it was a little uncomfortable, but it lasted about 45 mins, and in between whilst we were waiting for development times, Kaycie gave me a hand and head massage and we chatted through the waiting time. She also gave me an eyebrow wax and tint whilst I was in.

I was very impressed at the result. My eyelashes actually aren’t that long but after the lash lift, it was very similar affect to having extensions on, although just not quite as long. Such a small change makes such a huge difference to my eyes, it really opened them up. Having teamed the lash lift with an eyebrow wax and tint, my face was looking all around tidier and fresher without the need for make up.

I will be going back every 6 weeks to refresh the lift, I am tempted to have some lash extensions again but they are just such an up keep, so i’m sitting on the fence for the moment!

A Day in The Life #2 // Blogboss

I started this sporadic and irregular series of A Day in the Life of a Blogger and #girlboss last week, because my day to day life is so varied and lots of people always ask me what I do with my time and others aren’t always clear of all the things I do, do (hehe Do Do!). For those of you that read my blog, you may think that’s all I do, but I run two other successful businesses and these are a huge part of my life and I wanted to include that and give you a realistic insight in to what my days consist of.

Like I said in my first of the series, I don’t know how regular these post’s are going to be, some days just wouldn’t make for any kind of reading, it would be 9am got up opened laptop and sat on the sofa 7pm shut laptop. YAWN! lol but yesterday was a long in varied day and a very productive day too.

9am

Brad woke me up by bringing scrambled egg on toast to me in bed, love him.

It was a slow start, deliberating what I wanted to do for my Tuesday outfit post.

10am

Brad lit the fire (he was working from home too yesterday and distracting me) and I made tea, set my camera in my lounge and took some comfy shots of the dogs and I in my PJs.

10.30am

I edited the photo’s and started yesterday’s post.

12.45pm

Finished and Published post.

Made chicken soup for lunch (when I say “made” I opened a can and stuck it in a pan)

5.30pm

Got focused on the How I Partied website changes to be made.

At Home with a Blogger

I thought I would get a bit creative with my outfit post today, when I woke up this morning it was chucking it down with rain, I am full of cold (I have lost track of how many times I have sneezed today already!) and I don’t have any plans to leave the house today. I have so much design work and website stuff to be getting on with, quite frankly I didn’t feel like getting dressed just for the sake of an outfit post. So instead I thought I would just be totally honest about how I plan on spending the day, right here on the sofa with my puppies, next to the fire in my PJs! Here, come and join me….

Do you work from home? Do you find yourself mostly living in lounge wear or PJs?! It has become occupational hazard for me, on the days I don’t need to go out, I just don’t see the point in getting dressed. Or I get dressed in to something that is just as comfy as PJs but it is deemed acceptable to leave the house in, such as leggings and a large baggy jumper! But I have to say, it does make when I do get dressed up (or just dressed) more exciting. So rock n roll.

This definitely feels like the perfect time of year to update the comfy wardrobe. I have been checking out all the christmas pjs and christmas jumpers in all the shops. I thought I would hunt for my fav cosy homely stuff to share with you. Featured in the photos are my David and Goliath “You’re so Pugly” jumper, Barmy PJ bottoms from Peacocks, (you can see my haul video here) My pink elf slippers (which I have had to remove the bells from!), and my new gorgeous smelling glade candles.

Mermaid Tales // Family Time and a Hollywood Photo Booth

Awe you guys!! I have had such a lovely weekend, it has (as usual) flown by. My mum, her partner, Reg and my grandma came to stay on Saturday night and it was so lovely to see them all. Although I am regularly in Bournemouth, they struggle to get up to us in Bristol as often because of work, and grandma hasn’t been up since our first Christmas here.

I spent the day on Saturday cleaning and sorting the house in anticipation for our guests arrival. They didn’t arrive until about 7pm so we sat straight down to eat the yummy spag bowl I had been preparing and I spent quality time catching up with my family, hosting in my own home. Grandma even grew to like Logan, which is great progress since he’s been the reason for her lack of visiting since we got him. She’s just not a dog person, which is fine (Puggy is about her limit) but she thought he was lovely by the time they left. We did ask him to be on his best behaviour!

Bristol Lifestyle Blog Mermaid Gossip Mermaid Tales Family Fun

Yesterday morning we enjoyed a lovely walk through Leigh Woods, Logan spent most of his time flying through the forest (he’s my very own Jacob!) whilst we strolled through the trees over the autumn leaves covering the path under foot. We worked up quite an appetite, luckily Brad had stuck a chicken in the oven before we left so we feasted on a well earned roast dinner when we got back, before it was time to say our good byes. It’s always sad to see mum and grandma leave but I had a wedding to prepare for with the photo booth, so I took a nap, had a shower and got myself ready to head over the bridge to Forest of Dean for a remembrance Sunday wedding in Clearwell castle.

You know what they say a sunday well spent brings a week of content! I hope you had a great weekend and have a wonderful week!

10 Tools a Blogger Can’t Live Without // Blogboss

It’s been a while since I did a specific business style post. This will be the first over here at Mermaid Gossip, but if you want more, there’s loads more here! I love blogging so much and it takes up a huge part of my working week, and there are some tools that I use that make blogging and youtubing a dream and could save you hours. I have put together a short five part series with a few tips of the blogging trade that can help you become your own #BLOGBOSS.

BRISTOL LIFESTYLE BLOG MERMAID GOSSIP #BLOGBOSS 10 TOOLS A BLOGGER CANT LIVE WITHOUT7

1. Apple iPad Mini

I had the bigger older iPad and I never used it because it was too big and bulky to carry around and therefor it was never charged because I never used it. Since I got my iPad mini it barely leaves my side, it’s always in my handbag and it is such a good aid for blogging and youtube.

2. Apple Lightning to SD Card Reader

I love this little guy! This makes my life sooo much easier. I take photos and record videos on my camera and then I stick them in the card reader and import them on to my iPad.

3. iPhone 6

What can I say, (sad or not) the iPhone has changed my life! I can hands down say I wouldn’t have my business if it wasn’t for my iPhone. It makes working on the go the easiest thing in the world.

4. Afterlight

I can safely say I use this to edit 99% of my photos on my blog, I import any taken on my camera using my SD card reader and then edit them.

5. Nikon D3100 (and a 50mm f1.8 lens)

It’s so important to take great photos for your blog. For me, photography is such an important thing in life, I love taking photos and I love looking at good photos. I’m sure I am not alone. Be your own photography critic.

6. WordPress App

I compose my best blogs when I’m just sat chilling out on my iPhone 6 and not thinking about working. When it feels more like a hobby and like I am just writing to a friend.

7. Photosync

After all the editing of photos on the iPad, I always have to send them back to the MacBook to be size adjusted properly on photoshop and renamed before they’re uploaded. This app allows you to share any image on any device with any other device on the same wifi connection. I’m always sending images and videos back and fourth using this app.

8. Buffer

Makes scheduling tweets, facebook statuses, Google + a dream, in conjunction with Bulk Buffer you can schedule to your hearts content!

9. IFTTT

Use IFTTT to link over 50 different platforms, create recipes to make the Internet work for you. Here’s an example of how you can use IFTTT to create a spreadsheet of links of every post you make.

10. MacBook Pro

Everything has to be finished off on the laptop. I rename all my images and resize them using photoshop and upload them to wordpress. That allows me to set the file names with the meta data I want to set for that particular set of images. For example I might call an image “Bristol Fashion Blog Mermaid Gossip Things I Love Thursday”
