Beach, please! – Is exactly how I was feeling at the end of last week, I was hankering for a little holiday, a mini break away from everyday life. It’s so easy to let life become dull and mundane, to just get on with our work and lose our sense of fun and spontaneity. Which is why I sat here on Friday and decided to book a campsite for one night only, somewhere not too far from Bristol, just to get a small whiff of holiday vibes.
I remembered our friend had been out to a lovely beach in the Gower peninsular, in Wales, last summer so I went on the hunt for somewhere to stay near there. I looked at a few dog friendly B&Bs but I only wanted one night and also to keep things inexpensive. I figured as long as we had access to some toilet facilities then all we needed was somewhere to sleep and Brad’s work van (emptied of tools) would work perfectly for us to rough it for the night.
We loaded up the van on saturday afternoon, threw in a few camping basics, sleeping bags and a bit of padding to sleep on. The dogs had more stuff than us with all their beds and bowls! We felt a tad inadequate when we rocked up at the campsite which was full of fancy motor homes to the right and a few VW campers to our right but we had all we needed.
We stayed at Three Cliffs Bay campsite, situated on the clifftop over looking the beautiful welsh bay. We couldn’t have picked a better weekend to be spontaneous and we were blessed with blue skies all weekend. It was such a fun road trip, and although we were only gone for 24hours, it really feels like i’ve had a full weekend away.
In hindsight (after a very cold and not particularly comfortable nights sleep) we would like to modify the van a little now with a few home comforts. Things which can be taken out when Brad uses the van for work and easily but chucked in to dissapear when ever we feel like a night away, ie a custom fit mattress/padding and an extra duvet!!
