I had a little break away last week, we (Brad and three of our friends) spent just a few days in the south of France in a little (I’m talking tiny) village called Lavadac near Nerac. Brad’s dad’s friends own a chateau out there which he was kind enough to let us stay in. Brad’s been out there to do some work on the house a couple of times previous and he finally persuaded me to go. I had no idea what to expect and I was pretty over whelmed when we arrived.
The house itself, the architecture and the period features, were lovely, and huge and if you have a really good imagination you can really see how amazing it *could* be. Unfortunately it doesn’t get too much attention and needs a lot of work doing on it to get it up to the standard it really could be. It hasn’t seen a cleaner in a while and was full of cob webs and it’s just so grand, all that combined it felt super creepy – but then I have been watching A LOT of Pretty Little Liars recently! I was a little scared when it got dark, I have to admit, and it took a bit of getting used to.
We didn’t spend too much time in the house and explored lots of beautiful villages in the surrounding area. I spent lots of time taking photos as we walked and really enjoyed the shabby chic style to all the buildings, and all the colourful shutters. I tried to use what little I remember from GCSE French and utilised Google translator when I got stuck. I took my Huawei Mifi device everywhere to avoid using all the data on my phone which meant (where there was 3G signal) I was able to stay connected. I don’t think I’d have been able to cope with the cobwebs and no internet connection! I even spent some time one morning sat in the peace and quiet before everyone else got up and posted a blog, which helped me feel a little more at home.
We did a lot of eating everything, but mostly A LOT of cheese, drinking red wine, playing cards. We enjoyed a few games of badminton in the grounds of the house, with a make shift net too. It was nice to get away and see somewhere different since I’ve not been abroad in four years, but I was glad to get home to my clean and colourful house!
Next stop…. New York!!!!!
